It is always interesting to find out about different Churches. There are a few things we would encourage you to consider:
Firstly, there is the important matter of doctrine: What view does the church hold on the Bible? What does it teach about sin and salvation? What about spiritual gifts? What is its view on eternal security? Does the church hold to a literal thousand-year reign of Christ in the millennium? Those questions may not mean much to you now, but they will when someone gets up on a Sunday and starts teaching on it!
Secondly, the direction of a church: Does the church have a clearly stated purpose for being? Does it know why it exists and where it is heading? Do all the ministries of that church reflect the church’s purpose?
Thirdly, the internal structure of a church: How is the church governed? Who are its leaders? Does it have elders? If so, how are they appointed?
Sadly though, as we have found in so many cases, the only individual who knows the answers to these questions is the pastor (and perhaps one or two others), and even then sometimes he is not sure of the answer! It is important for every church to have a constitution, but a constitution does not help to keep a church on track theologically. Nor does it remind a church of its vision.
For this reason, we as a church have compiled this information as a way of introducing our church to newcomers, but also reminding each and every person who is part of this church family why we are here, what we teach, and how we are governed. In addition, we have added a brief explanation of several important topics such as “How do I become a Christian?”, “Why baptism by immersion?”, “What is the meaning of the Lord’s Supper?”, and “Is church discipline biblical?”
We trust you will be blessed in reading it.
