Why We Exist

Our purpose for existing is three-fold:

UPREACH:   We believe that loving and glorifying God is man’s highest calling and our relationship to Him is our greatest priority in life (Matt. 22:37; Deut. 6:5).  All that we do as a church flows out of this relationship.

INREACH:  This concerns the need for each and every individual in our fellowship to be equipped for service and growing in spiritual maturity (or Christ-likeness), (Eph. 4:11-13; Col. 1:18-19).  This takes place on Sunday mornings as well as in small group meetings throughout the week.

OUTREACH:   God has called us to go beyond the “Christian camp” to a world that is in need of Him (Matt. 28:19-20).  We believe God has given every Christian a “sphere of influence” in which to be a testimony for Christ.

Where We Fit In

We are not alone.  We are part of a larger body of Baptist Churches that are scattered throughout New Zealand.  Because Baptists have no authoritarian creed or church government, there are wide variations of expressions of faith and practice.

What are we preaching?

We believe in faithfully preaching God's Word - as it is the main means whereby people are changed - as the Holy Spirit makes God's inspired Truth come alive in our hearts.

We are currently working through the Book of Hebrews. The preaching for this series will be shared by Calvyn Jonker, Dave Tastard and Micheal Newland.

John Leevers (Relief Pastor) did a series on The Beatitudes

Please be patient with us! All these sermons will be available for download or streaming on our website.

We are in the process of migrating sermons from the old website to the new one.

What can you expect when visiting WEBC?

About 160 people attend Whanganui East Baptist each Sunday, all from a range of ages and backgrounds. Dress style also ranges all the way from casual attire to formal suit and tie. Worship music is a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary music, however it does differ from Sunday to Sunday.

The service lasts for about an hour and a half, and afterwards there is a morning tea where we encourage you to have a cup of tea or coffee and get to meet a few people. During the service, the pastor / service leader may ask people to greet those around you, however you won't be singled out as a visitor. Also, an offering bag will be passed around during the service, but please feel free to let this pass by.

Junior Church is available during the service for ages up to intermediate school. For more detailed information please visit our page on Children's Ministries.
